***DAILY DO’S – THURSDAY 7AM EDITION***
Pantsuiters (and like-minded progressives), are showing up! You're kicking ass and taking names. Take a moment to check out these examples. And. Keep. It. Up.
- You told Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (CD5) to "Save our healthcare!" http://bit.ly/2jAdOTP
- You showed up to Rep. Dave Reichert's (CD8) office en masse to find it mysteriously closed during business hours. Is someone a tad bit afraid of his constituents? http://bit.ly/2jaZq0Q
- You attended a town hall held by Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (CD3). Pantsuiter Cris Day described it like this, "It was a lively event. There were not enough seats for everyone that showed up. The majority of people who spoke were pro ACA. At one point, she told people that we shouldn't be afraid and the crowd openly laughed at her. I didn't envy her."
- You were there at the education funding rally in Olympia speaking eloquently with your voices and your presence. Yes, that voice you hear is our own Melissa Wingard-Phillips Taylor. http://bit.ly/2iUpIXl
1. Today is another big day on the cabinet nominee front. Rick Perry’s hearing just started. You may remember him as the presidential candidate who wanted to eliminate (but couldn’t remember the name of) the department of Energy, which coincidently is the department he’s been chosen to head. Enough said. Call the members of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee and let them know why you think Perry is a poor choice. Relevant contact info and talking points here: http://bit.ly/2i0a88V.
2. If you’re looking for a way to keep future generations of Americans informed about science in the hope that we see fewer science-doubting and denying elected and appointed officials, it’s time to call Olympia. Today House Education Committee is holding a public hearing that would eliminate “the use of the high school science assessment as a graduation prerequisite.” Call and let the committee members know why you think science should be a required part of high school learning. Bill info here: http://bit.ly/2jA6IyI. Contact info for the committee members is here: http://bit.ly/2jbcTWp.
3. I’m actually a historian by training, which means I often find it useful to look to past experiences for help understanding future possibilities. In preparation for this weekend’s many marches, I ask you to take a moment and read the LA Time’s opinion piece “Woodrow Wilson's woman problem, a case study for the Trump era.” http://lat.ms/2jM3JjU. Our fore-mothers also faced a new president who did not believe in women’s rights. So they marched, protested, and fought him and everyone else who stood in their way.
