Good News: WA School Funding
So, do you like good news? I'm going to go with yes. Well, last night the Levy Cliff passed in no small part because people like YOU called, wrote, and lobbied your Senators in Olympia to vote. So give yourself a pat on the back, you made legislation happen.
Remember the old adage "sometimes the best defense is a good offence"? Well this morning there are several things you can do to prepare you to fight future legislation, to discuss difficult topics, and participate in political conversations.
1. Next battle- the Internet. Want to help shape the future? Read up on the FCC rulemaking and comment process. Sadly, you’ll likely need it in the near future.
Rulemaking looks very different from lawmaking, but the good news is that there's a guide that quickly covers what you really need to know. Read it here https://www.fcc.gov/about-fcc/rulemaking-process and get ready to take action.
2. There are a lot of conversations that happen within some communities and not others. For some people “the talk” is about sex, but for far too many black parents, “the talk” is about how to deal with the police. For those of you who never raised or will never raise children of color take a moment to empathize. This video shows the very real conversations black parents have with their kids about how to protect themselves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coryt8IZ-DE What did you learn? How do you feel?
3. Find your Town Hall and GO! Most are THIS WEEKEND The Town Hall project—which like many great things grew out of a Google doc file—is a great resource for finding out when there will be town hall meetings in your communities. https://townhallproject.com/ First, bookmark it. There’s not a lot going on in Washington state right now, so take a minute to share the link with friends or family in other states.
