***DAILY DO’S – THURSDAY 8AM EDITION***  Mary Park
Good morning Indivisibles! It’s easy to get caught up in the news coming out of DC since Flynn’s resignation—too easy, maybe, if it lets us go into passive mode while we wait for the full spy/horror movie to unfold. Meanwhile, the GOP is profiting from chaos to check off items on their political wish list. Next on the chopping block: the environment! Because who needs clean air and water anyway!
Did you know that a bill to terminate the EPA (H.R.861) has been referred to House committee?
WA currently has no members on the Committee on Science, Space and Technology. But we don't want this bill to even see the light of the full house floor for our reps to have a crack at it. Let's call them and remind them how much we value the EPA! Ask them to pressure their colleagues to Vote NO in the committee.
You can also copy/paste this info to share with anyone you know in these states: TX, CA, OK, IL, KY, FL, AL, TX, CA, VA, GA, LA, IN, AZ, KS, CO, CT, NY, OR, HI, NV

The other tactic when you want to destroy a crucial function of the government, of course, is just to DeVos the heck out of it. In this case, the backup for EPA-elimination is to turn it over to a known climate denier, Scott Pruitt. (He once called climate change “a religious belief”; true story.) Read more here: https://tinyurl.com/hl46x34
Senator Susan Collins from Maine recently announced she wouldn’t be supporting Pruitt, which means there’s a decent shot at blocking his nomination.
And if by any chance you’re getting battle fatigue, please remember: we made Puzder withdraw. We can do it again! And again! The writing is on the wall for Trump, perhaps, but we need to outlast and out-fight him while we wait. The stakes could not be higher.

EPA Talking Points:
Talking points for H.R.861: - Remind committee legislators that Flint, MI still does not have clean, safe drinking water. They are waiting on Administration-frozen EPA grant money that Congress approved for them last year. We need our drinking water supplies to be clean, and the EPA helps ensure that.
- The EPA has proven its worth in protecting us from harmful toxins such as DDT, leaded gas, secondhand smoke, mercury, and more. Without the agency, we and our environment are exposed to future harm and weakened regulations.
- Smog, acid rain, and air pollution would be far more harmful without EPA clean air standards.
- Climate change is a critical challenge, and the EPA is essential to getting us to air pollution levels that safeguard our future and stabilize temps.
- The public has a right to know what is happening in and to their environment and how to safeguard it.
