Make Arctic NWR an National Monument

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is one of the world’s most beautiful and unspoiled landscapes, and is worthy of the strongest possible protection to ensure all Americans can use it for years to come.
The Refuge is one of our nation’s most important spiritual and majestic places, with caribou, muskoxen, wolves, 200 species of migratory birds, and polar bears calling it home. It is a landscape created long before us by a greater power, and future generations are relying on us to protect this special place. The Gwich’in Nation, whose home has been the Arctic since time immemorial, have called for permanent protection of the birthing grounds of the Porcupine Caribou herd for over 30 years.
Despite the Refuge’s importance to wildlife and people alike, oil companies have set their sights on drilling in this sensitive area for decades – a threat that has intensified as they go to greater lengths to find oil. The Refuge is ground zero for climate change impacts – over the past 40 years, Alaska has warmed twice as fast as the rest of the country. We can’t risk compounding this problem by adding drilling to the equation.
Because of these immense threats, now is the time to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge once and for all. Please take action to permanently protect the Arctic Refuge.
